Student Handout

(or ctrl-click for Macintosh) and select "Save Link As..."

Objective:
Students will be able to draw conclusions about a character and report information in an interview format.

1. Assign your students to interview one of the heroes or heroines featured in the flipbook. You may choose to have students work individually or in groups*.

2. Discuss the concept of interviewing, unless your class has used this format before. Ask them to think about interviews they may have seen or heard before. Ask students to suggest ways in which an interviewer might get interesting information from his or her subject.

3. Provide students with the "Sample Questions" handout, and ask them to add more questions. Instruct the students to create questions related to the hero or heroine's culture and the way people live in the culture.

*Tip: You may wish to suggest that students who work in groups take turns playing the role of interviewer and hero or heroine. Suggest that they compile responses from all "heroes or heroines" to come up with a final interview.
